We assisted the International Cricket Council (ICC), cricket’s world governing body, in the development of a strategic plan that set out the way forward for the next five years for the ICC and the game globally.
For the first time, Sport England held in one document an overview of all their main sports’ plans for identifying and nurturing their talented athletes in the early stages of their development. Sport England has allocated considerable resources, accessed through Lottery funding, to the development of sporting talent in key sports between 2006 and 2009. They determined this investment must deliver significant improvement in the ability of the sporting community, and particularly the National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGB’s), to identify and nurture talented athletes, within an effective sports system to provide Sport England with a clear picture of their current talent frameworks, scope and application so that gaps could be identified and remedial action recommended. This was a complex challenge, requiring collaborative working with personnel from a wide range of sporting bodies, with 16 weeks from commissioning to presentation of the final report.
This is an amazing story of a niche meat business whose business was in export quality beef prior to the outbreak of BSE in 1996. At a stroke Donald Russell's entire export business was wiped out. Their recovery is a story to inspire others, how identifying new growth markets, supplying industry leading quality, learning from others and providing inspirational leadership to people can be the basis of success even in the harshest and most hostile business environment. It was my privilege to work, as an adviser, with Hans Baumann, Donald Russell's Swiss CEO during the formative years building the new business.

In 2009 Scottish Cycling was bust in more ways than one. Financially the business had made losses in 2 consecutive years. Propped up by sportscotland the governing body survived but was largely dysfunctional from the board through to the dispirited staff. The booming sport of cycling in the UK fuelled by Olympic and World Championship performances was passing Scotland by. Members and participants in Scotland found the governing body remote from the reality at the grass roots, and at the same time there were few prospects of medal success at elite level. In 2012 Craig Burn, Scottish Cycling's CEO invited Renaissance & Company to undertake a fundamental review of the sport as a business and a sport.
Our consultants carried out a review of the performance of the Irish team at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
ScottishPower is a major fully integrated electricity utility. Historically generation was based on fossil fuel fired power stations, backed up with hydro electric and nuclear power plants. Scenario thinking enabled them to decide on the future of generation and their strategy towards new technologies such as fuel cells.

Our client was a newly formed business division of a major international food group. The new company was experiencing difficulties with its new product development process in terms of resource bottlenecks, projects being stalled, failed initiatives, and no successfully commercialised products in market. Through a radical review of the processes we enable the company to develop successful new product streams in a relatively short period of time. Genesis’ partnerships consultants worked with Odeon to create a unique sponsorship platform for RIAS, a specialist insurer for over 50s, to engage with potential customers. Odeon ‘Senior Screen’, a season of films for mature guests, was launched in October 2006 and RIAS began sponsoring the initiative in May 2007. This first time sponsorship provided a unique opportunity to create a long term and relevant presence in a cinema environment. Our consultants managed the logistics and sponsorship content of the partnership.
